Aiming for zero emissions of greenhouse gases such as CO2 and air pollutants such as NOx and SOx, we have developed the "E/V e-Oshima," a fully battery-powered ship equipped with a large-capacity lithium-ion battery (600kWh). As a highly efficient electrical system, it is the first commercial ship in Japan to adopt a DC grid system, minimizing power conversion losses (DC to AC conversion) from the battery to the propulsion motors and cabin air conditioning. Furthermore, the ship is equipped with an automatic navigation system, including automatic collision avoidance and grounding prevention functions. Demonstration operations using this system have been selected as one of the "Automated Navigation Ship Demonstration Projects" by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. This ship is completely free of the noise and vibration typical of engines, providing a quiet and comfortable voyage unique to battery-powered vessels. Furthermore, this vessel received the "Ship of the Year 2019," the "Good Design Award 2019," and the "Kyushu Transport Bureau Director's Award (Environmental Conservation Category Award)."
